What is Mample?

Mample is a free, open-source notification tool that connects your Android phone to your terminal and AI coding workflow. Step away from the screen while builds, scripts or AI tasks run. Pair your terminal once, then send a notification when a command finishes or ask your assistant to send one when it needs your input. No subscriptions, premium tier or monthly notification quota, and no email/password registration. The source code is open for you to inspect, contribute to and adapt to your own workflow.

Terminal notifications

Terminal Setup

Open your computer's terminal and install the tool globally using the npm install -g mample command.

Connect with QR or Secret Key

Run mample auth qr in your terminal and scan the QR code with the Mample app. Or enter your app’s Secret Key with mample auth "secret_key". Both options set up the same connection.

Send a Notification

Run mample "Done" to send a message to your phone. Replace the text inside the double quotes with your own message. To send it automatically after a task, see the terminal examples in the guide.

Notifications from AI agents

Install and pair with terminal

Install Mample with npm install -g mample, then pair your phone with mample auth qr. If your terminal is already paired, you're ready to go.

Ask Your Assistant to Send a Notification

Use an AI assistant with terminal access and “Always allow” enabled for Mample commands. When your task is complete, ask: “Send me a mobile notification using Mample.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does Mample read my code or terminal output?
The CLI sends the notification message you provide. It does not upload your project or collect terminal output automatically. Avoid including information in a message that you do not want transmitted through Firebase.
How is data privacy technically ensured? Where is my data stored and what cloud infrastructure do you use?
Mample uses Firebase anonymous authentication instead of email/password registration. Firebase holds the device delivery token, a hash of your CLI key, connection details, preferences and rate-limit counters. Messages are temporarily queued for delivery. Notification history is stored locally on your phone. Operational logs may also be processed by the hosting providers.
What happens when I change my phone?
Install Mample on the new phone and pair your terminal using that installation's Secret Key. There is no premium entitlement or purchase to transfer.
Is there a limit to how many terminal alerts I can send?
There is no monthly notification quota. To prevent spam, the current backend allows up to 5 requests per connection or CLI key and 20 requests per user across all connections in a rolling 60-second window. A rejected request returns a retry time; wait before trying again.
When are browser extensions coming?
Browser integration is planned. Find the existing extension and its documentation on the Extension page. Mample currently focuses on the mobile app and CLI.
Which IDEs and AI assistants does Mample work with?

Mample works with terminal-capable coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and GitHub Copilot in agent mode. It is not tied to a specific IDE; the assistant must be able to run the Mample CLI.

Why should I choose Mample over other notification apps or bot software?
Mample combines a mobile app and a lightweight terminal command. Once paired, you can send a message with mample or add it after a build. AI assistants with terminal access can use the same command. Mample is completely free, without a monthly notification quota.
